This book is designed to support teachers in their teaching of junior secondary students with learning disabilities or low literacy skills. It contains units of work that have been adjusted to help students learn the most important subject matter usually covered in Years 7–9 across Australia.
All units have been designed to achieve outcomes drawn from the Statements of Learning that have been developed by State and Territory education authorities and which are relevant nationally. Each unit contains an overview of the total unit which acts as a pre-teaching organiser, a glossary of new terms, vocabulary learning activities, core information presented in a simplified format, and activities that are designed to help the students learn the most important subject matter. Learning activities are itemised at the beginning of each unit so both students and teacher can monitor individual progress throughout. Both students and teacher have an opportunity to evaluate the unit, and the extent of assistance required.
This book will help differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all students through a variety of structured but motivating activities that will encourage your students to think deeply and engage with challenging material. The material in this book is photocopiable for classroom use.
