Social skills for Primary Students Bk 2

Seven one-hour sessions to help pupils develop social awareness and personal responsibility.

Deborah Cohen and Lorrae Jaderberg

Every classroom has children who persistently cause low-level disruption: calling out, falling out, not taking turns. This intensive social skills programme is designed to help children develop social awareness and an understanding of their own and others' responsibilities and behaviour, in order that they are able to concentrate and learn effectively.

During seven one-hour sessions, children participate in discussions, games and practical activities which explore these important issues and help raise self-esteem.

Includes scripts for each session, evaluation grids for the pupils, templates of letters home to parents as well as photocopiable activity sheets.

This tried-and-tested programme will ensure your pupils know how to:

  • take turns fairly
  • give feedback without causing offence
  • say sorry and mean it
  • resolve conflicts effectively
  • reflect on situations and modify their behaviour
  • understand their own strengths and weaknesses
  • become an active listener
  • develop respectful relationships
  • join in and/or lead a group well

Suitable for children aged 7-11, or older children with particular needs in this area and ideally suited for working with a group of 4-6 pupils
