Level 2 (yellow) is slightly more advanced than the first. Now, in addition to the 42 letter sounds used in the first level, y is used for the /ee/ sound at the end of words like funny. As before, light type is used as a guide for those few letters that should not be sounded out, such as the b in lamb.
The Jolly Readers use controlled vocabulary so children can read words from their knowledge of the letter sounds in Jolly Phonics. Only a few essential tricky words are used, these are shown at the back of each book.
There are three lively series (Inky Mouse and Friends, General Fiction and Nonfiction) covering a wide range of subjects. There are 6 different titles in each series pack.
